Teams Love All Dealer West
This deal is from the Manchester Green Point Swiss Teams in July. 800 is a fairly common score in bridge, three or four down doubled depending on vulnerability, usually a score you are happier to receive rather than concede. On this deal Tom Slater and Alec Smalley found a different way to score 800. After Tom had decided to pass with his wildly distributional hand, he was rather surprised to hear Alec open in his seven card suit. South pre-empted with his own seven card suit and Tom decided he was worth a slam try with so few losers. Alec asked for key cards and North doubled the response for a lead. Alec was disappointed that two key cards were missing and settled for game. South doubled optimistically, Tom thought that if Alec could ask for key cards he must have a spade control, so redoubled. Five diamonds redoubled making scores 800! Thanks to Tom and Alec for reporting this deal |
