It is not often that you make your first bid in a new suit at the seven level on a balanced two count.  Leslie Klein managed this on the above deal in the Northern Bridge League in October.  After West had opened a weak two David Barton overcalled three diamonds and East asked for key cards.  David Barton was able to double the response of five clubs to show a two suiter and East confidently bid the slam.  Leslie bravely bid seven clubs which went for 1100 gaining eight IMPs against six spades making.  Double dummy the defence can take 1400 by forcing declarer at every opportunity.  Note West's pass of seven clubs which shows a first round control in clubs, allowing East to bid the grand, for example with AKQxx of hearts and Kxx of clubs.
