Another endplay from
the
Manchester Green Point Pairs last month. Another quick auction
with
West leading a small heart. This ran to East's king who returned
another heart won by the queen. Declarer played a club to the
jack and a club back to the queen and ace. Another heart was won
by the ace and the spade finesse successfully taken. Declarer
cashed the club king, when the clubs failed to break had only eight
tricks at this point. However cashing two top diamonds and
exiting with the losing club left East on play with only spades left,
so when he played a spade declarer ran it to the queen and made three
spades, and two tricks in each of the other suits to make the contract
for an above average score.
