Another deal from the
Swiss Teams at Deva.
West responded two hearts (game forcing) to East's opening one spade bid. North came in with two notrump to show the minors, East supported hearts and South jumped to five clubs. West now passed five clubs, this is obviously a forcing pass, since East-West were forced to game. If East had doubled five clubs West intended to bid five hearts. This "Pass and Pull" sequence shows a better hand than an immediate five hearts by West. But East decided that his hand was strong enough to bid five notrump meaning pick a slam. West had no hesitation in choosing hearts and there were no problems in the play. In the other room on a sequence that started similarly North-South found the good save in seven clubs losing 1100 points, but gaining 8 IMPs. |
