the above auction West leads the six of
hearts. Reluctant to gamble on this running to
the ten, when you might have eleven top tricks you
win the trick in dummy with the ace of hearts.
How do you play now?
Solution The
entry position is fraught, you need the club king as
entry to your top spades. Declarer decided to
run the jack of clubs from dummy to keep the entries
fluid. This was successful in that East held
the queen of clubs, however West showed out.
Now declarer can play on diamonds to ensure ten
tricks.
