This
deal
is
from a local duplicate.
After
West opened one heart, South played in six notrump
on the queen of hearts lead.
Declarer
knocked out the spade ace, the defence continued
with the jack of hearts.
Declarer
now cashed all the spades coming down to the club
ace and AKQ10 of diamonds. When the diamond
jack failed to drop the contract was one off.
However,
declarer could have done better, can you see how?
Scroll
down.
Declarer
should have thrown the club ace on the last spade
and kept AKQ103 of diamonds.
Now West is squeezed in three suits and has to give
up either a club or heart trick immediately, which
will allow declarer to cash a top card in that suit
repeating the squeeze, or throw away the diamond
guard giving the declarer two extra diamond tricks.

to Raymond Semp for reporting and analysing this
deal.
