This
deal is from a duplicate at Bramhall.
One
notrump was 15-17 and East's two notrump bid
lebensohl hoping to play in three diamonds.
North's three heart call ended the auction.
West
led the ten of hearts which East won with the ace,
declarer carefully unblocked the five of hearts to
preserve as many entries to dummy as possible.
Now a heart return went to the jack and was
overtaken with the king. South tried the ten
of spades, covered with the jack and queen.
The seven of hearts was played to the nine and
another spade was led to the nine. South now
cashed the spade ace and exited with a
diamond.
The
defence couldn't open up the club suit without
giving a trick so they played three rounds of
diamonds ruffed by South. With all the other
side suits eliminated and East sure to have the club
king for his opening bid, South had a perfect end
play position, a club to the ten left East on lead
to either give a ruff and discard or lead away from
the king of clubs.
Nicely
played by Michael Wymer.
