Deal of the WeekHigson FinalsThe Higson Cup and Plate finals were held on Sunday 26th April at Altrincham. Both finals were all play all handicap events. In the Cup Deal or No Deal (David Stevenson, Liz Commins, Martin Taylor and Paddy Murphy) won by 1 VP ahead of St Titus (Michael Byrne, Daniel Kelsall, Alan Mould and John Holland) in a field of six teams. In the Plate Help! (Howard Rosemarine, Adrian Shiers, Jeffrey Bor and Jonathan Berg) won by a good margin ahead of Hindsight Convention (Irene Davies, Karen Reissmann, Alan Tranter and Andy Burnett) in a field of seven teams. Goldstone FinalThe final of the Goldstone was held on Thursday 23rd April in the afternoon at Manchester Bridge Club. Inverted Minors (David Barton, Rhona Goldenfield, Joy & Irving Blakey, Kath Nelson) played St Titus (Michael Byrne, Gary Hyett, John Holland, Alan Mould, Rodney Lighton). St Titus were 62 imps up after 24 boards at which point Inverted Minors conceded. 
John Holland, Rodney Lighton, Michael Byrne, Alan Mould, Gary Hyett Easter FestivalCongratulations to Michael Byrne who has won the Championship Pairs with Kieran Dyke, their third win in four years. They also won the Swiss Pairs on Easter Monday. Detailed results are on the EBU web site. League, Higson and Goldstone Apr 1stIn the face to face league St Titus (Michael Byrne) have taken an early lead in division 1 with 5 wins so far. In division 2 Petersfield are top with 2 wins. In the online league division 1 Inverted Minors (David Barton) have finished with six wins, they can only be caught by The North Star (Michael Hart) who need to win their final match by a large margin. In division 2 Howard Rosemarine's Help are leading just ahead of City Aces. In division 3 congratulations to Trafford Tigers who have won by a large margin. In the Newcomers league The Irregulars lead in the A division and Fifty Shades of Play top the B division. Follow the links under league for more detail. National Pairs Regional FinalsThe Northern Pairs was held online on Sunday 22nd March. Congratulations to David Sarabowski and Isabel Edelsten who finished 2nd in a field of 37 pairs (effectively the winners since the first pair were robots). David is well known in Manchester, Isabel is a student at Manchester University who has played for the England U26 women's team. In third place were Richard Acaster and Gil Fletcher.
